Abstract:From October 2020 to early February 2021, due to the joint influence of the La Nina event and the abnormal atmospheric circulation, the precipitation in south of Jiangnan and Yunnan, most of South China and other places of Southwest of China is significantly less than that in the same period of normal years. In early November, the meteorological drought began to appear and developed rapidly, and there were severe consecutive drought in autumn and winter in above regions. The drought affected a wide area, with more dry days and stronger intensity, resulting in a significant decrease in lake storage water in the affected areas; the meteorological level of forest fire risk was high. From February 8 to 11, 2021, the meteorological drought in Jiangnan and South China was relieved by significant precipitation in most regions but still existed in Yunnan and other places of Southwest of China.Starting with the climate characteristics and the process of drought evolution, the characteristics and causes of the drought process were analyzed in depth in order to provide relevant information for researchers engaged in climate impact assessment and service and also provide reference for drought prevention and drought relief work.
