Abstract:
In recent years, global flood events keep increasing. Much more extreme floods have been reported in 2022, the Pakistan flood in 2022 has attracted extensive attention. The paper reveals that the accumulative rainfall from July to August increased by 195.7% compared with normal years, and points out that the rainfall amount increased by 726% in August in the Sindh Province where was severely affected by floods. The causes of this catastrophic flood event are the summer monsoon anomaly in South Asia, the special topography. The flood disaster caused 1 739 deaths and affected nearly one-seventh of the Pakistan's population. The flood management problems in Pakistan were summarized from the aspects of policies, laws, institutions, planning and management measures, and suggestions for reduction were proposed.
