Abstract:Tropical cyclone disasters are one of the most frequent and severe meteorological disasters in the southeast coast region of China. It causes great property and economic losses and even human casualties each year, which seriously restricts the harmonious development of society and economy. Analysis of the temporal-spatial characteristics of tropical cyclone disasters is very important for scientific understanding of tropical cyclone disasters and for the integrated risk prevention improvement. This study analyzes the temporal-spatial characteristics of tropical cyclone disasters that landed in China from 2000 to 2016. The tropical cyclone disasters index(ATDI) was selected as well as four common disaster indicators including the casualty, collapsed house, disaster area and direct economic loss. The results show that the frequency of tropical cyclone disasters in China was significant during 2000-2016, and the impact scope was very wide by covering 20 provinces. There were 135 tropical cyclone disasters during 17 years period, with an average of 7.9 times per year. The four disaster indicators have large inter-annual differences. Among them, the most seriously affected five provinces(Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan) were emphatically analyzed. The most serious typhoon among the tropical cyclone disasters is selected for the typical case, and the study shows that the wind speed, rainstorm and duration of the typhoon are the main reasons for the major disaster damage.
