Abstract:In order to study the role of river system connectivity in the construction of sponge city and the manage-ment framework of river system,water problems caused by economic development and urban sprawl are first ana-lyzed in this paper. Based on the structure and function of the river system, the connotation and forms of river sys-tem connectivity are proposed. Combined with the theories of sponge city system and main water problems, the connectivity of urban river system which is used as the skeleton of the sponge city is beneficial for solving urban waterlogging, alleviating the shortage of water sipply, restoring the water environment and protecting water ecolo-gy. Finally, based on the important roles of urban water system connectivity, the framework of water system plan-ning and management, including the diagnosis, evaluation, structural measures and optimizing management meth-od, which provides technical support for the construction of sponge city.
