Abstract:Climate change leads to the increase of extreme climate events, especially the frequency and intensity of drought/flood disasters, which have a serious impact on our production and life. In recent years, the study of extreme climate events received more and more attention. The definition of extreme climate events, correlated index and the trend of spatiotemporal change are mainly studied. The research content of drought and flood disasters caused by extreme climate events mostly based on drought/flood index is relatively mature, other aspects of the research is still not perfect. This paper mainly summarize the definition and research content of extreme climate events, also to summarize the current research status of drought/flood disasters caused by it under the background of climate change. Besides, this paper anticipates the prospect of the extreme climate events, especially occurrence mechanism of drought and flood disaster, drought/ flood monitoring, simulation, response to climate change and prediction. The research directions that need to be strengthened in the future are also discussed.
